Penalties for Minor in Possession
Those in violation of laws regarding alcohol possession can be subjected to the juvenile court and can be considered criminal offenses. The judge may offer a diversion program for a first offense in which the individual refrains from any illegal activity and submits to periodic inspections over a set period. Successful completion of the program will result in dismissal of the complaint.
If the person fails the diversion program or is arrested for subsequent possession charges, the judge can make a ruling on the case. If found guilty, the person will be responsible for paying the fines and any other penalties from their first charges, as well as the subsequent offense.
